If you’re looking for the full Warsaw Old Town experience, Restauracja U Barssa is exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble upon — and then never stop recommending. Tucked right on the Old Town Market Square, just steps from the Mermaid statue and surrounded by those iconic, colourful townhouses, the setting alone is worth the visit. It’s genuinely one of the most picturesque corners of Warsaw, and there’s something special about sitting here, watching the square come to life while traditional Polish cooking arrives at your table. We booked our table online and the whole process was effortless — no issues with availability, everything confirmed smoothly, and we were welcomed the moment we arrived. From there, it only got better. The food was outstanding from start to finish. We began with the seasonal cream of asparagus soup, which was beautifully done — delicate, fresh and clearly made with care. We also tried the chłodnik (chilled beetroot soup), a perfect choice and one I’d happily recommend to anyone wanting something refreshing and authentically Polish. For mains, the pikeperch (sandacz) was a real highlight — I can’t recommend it enough; a wonderful choice for fish lovers. We also went for the beer-braised, oven-roasted pork knuckle (golonka), which was rich, tender and full of flavour — proper, hearty Polish cooking at its best. And then the desserts, which deserve a paragraph of their own. We worked our way through a few: a white chocolate cheesecake, a warm chocolate fondant, and a classic apple pie (szarlotka). Every single one was excellent — a genuinely lovely way to end the meal. But if there’s one thing I want to single out above everything else, it’s the service. We were looked after by Cezary (Czarek), and honestly, he made the evening. He’s the kind of host who is completely in his element — warm, attentive, full of energy, and clearly someone who takes real pride in making sure every guest leaves happy. That’s exactly how we felt walking out: genuinely well looked after. We can only wish every restaurant had service of this calibre. Thank you, Czarek. Add to all of this prices that are very reasonable for what you get — especially given the prime Old Town Square location — and you have a place that’s incredibly easy to recommend. Whether you’re a tourist wanting an authentic taste of Polish cuisine or a local after a memorable dinner in a beautiful historic setting, U Barssa delivers on every front. We’ll absolutely be back. Everything we ordered was fantastic—the duck pierogi were the best we've ever had, and the colorful beet salad was so fresh and generous it could easily have been a meal by itself. Plus, you can't beat the view of the square. Highly recommended!

A special thank you to our waiter, Michael, who made our evening even better. He was friendly, attentive, professional, and gave us excellent recommendations. His service was truly outstanding and made us feel very welcome. We highly recommend U Barssa to anyone visiting Warsaw. We will definitely be back!
Thank to cesar, we had great experience here, The lamb was tender and flavorful, while the pato (duck) was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and rich, traditional flavors. classic Polish dining experience in the heart of Warsaw’s Old Town.
Excellent service from the crew, especially Czarek, who entertained us with a dance while peppering our food. The restaurant is adorned with beautiful tapestries and tiffany lamps. Always interesting to dine in a historic location. Great food, recommend the pork chop, venison and duck. Not gamey at all and tender. I took the pics after eating so pardon the messy presentation.
