Description
Meet your guide by Sigismund's Column, dedicated to the Polish king who moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw in the 16th century. Begin with a view of the Royal Castle, former residence of Polish rulers and site where the 3 May Constitution—the first in Europe—was adopted. Time permitting, you can enter the castle to see royal apartments and artworks by Rembrandt and Bernardo Bellotto (Canaletto).
Stroll along narrow streets to the Old Town Square, once the site of markets, festivities, and public executions. Admire the colorful townhouses and the statue of the Warsaw Mermaid, the city's emblem. Continue to the Barbican and Kanonia Street bell, walk along the old city walls, and take in views of the Vistula River from Gnojna Góra observation point.
Visit the cathedral, containing tombs of medieval Mazovian princes, the last king Stanisław August Poniatowski, and pianist and politician Ignacy Jan Paderewski. See Krasinski Palace, the Supreme Court building, and the Warsaw Uprising monument. Learn about the city’s World War II devastation and post-war reconstruction.
Pass key landmarks such as the Grand Theatre, National Opera, and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Finish your tour with a walk along the Royal Route, which links three former royal residences: the Royal Castle, Royal Łazienki, and Wilanów Palace. Stop at the Presidential Palace, Warsaw University campus, and notable churches and townhouses before ending the guided tour.
