Description

Wolf’s Lair is a complex of large, multi-story bunkers hidden within Masuria, a region characterized by forests and lakes. It was a key site during World War II, where Operation Barbarossa—the secret plan to invade the Soviet Union—was directed. The site also witnessed the decision to build extermination camps and was the location of Hitler’s failed assassination attempt in July 1944.

Although the bunkers were partially destroyed during the German retreat in January 1945, the remaining concrete structures demonstrate the military scale and power of Nazi Germany. Besides Hitler, other top Third Reich officials, including Goering, Bormann, Keitel, and Jodl, had bunkers here.

Today, Wolf’s Lair attracts over 250,000 visitors annually due to its historical significance and scenic surroundings. On the return journey, you can visit one of three additional sites: Mamerki to see more bunkers, a nearby medieval castle, or a Baroque church noted for its interior design.
