We are about to start the 27th International Street Art Festival. Our idea is to promote this egalitarian art by presenting interesting proposals of street theatres from Poland and Europe. Our festival is the only event in Warsaw where people have a chance to meet open-air theatre artists. It happens once a year at the beginning of summer holidays.
During the two weekends that are ahead of us we are going to visit various places in our capital city with theatre and fine arts projects. We will be at Rynek Nowego Miasta, Park Szczęśliwicki, the square near Słodowiec Metro Station and Centrum Praskie Koneser.
This year two Czech companies will take us to the wonderful world of circus: Cirkus trochu jinak with the performance OnTheRoad and V.O.S.A Theatre with a new version of Baron Prášil. The Belgian BUNK® Circus will enchant us with their machinery while presenting Poly. Teatr na Walizkach from Wrocław with The Barrel of Laughter and Teatr Canoa from Poznań with A Story of a Certain Love will invite spectators to clown shows. Mr. Pezo’s Wandering Dolls from Russia will amaze with the form in their family spectacle called Moonsters. Walny – Teatr has a surprise for us in an unusual theatre space – a magic caravan, where they will present the premiere performances of Those Wonderful Movie Cranks. Then we will travel to the Moon in La Luna, a silent movie inspired spectacle co-produced by Theater des Lachens, das Weite Theater Berlin and Teatr Animacji from Poznań. Obviously, the representatives of the Warsaw theatre circles will be with us as well. Teatr Akt will appear with a wonderful sentimental performance of Chick Stick, and Mimo Pantomime Theatre is going to present their most recent production The House of My Dreams.
Spectacles verging on the art form of visual theatre will be an interesting artistic proposal. Ewolucja Cienia Theatre from Poznań will bring to life sculptures by a well-known Polish artist in the spectacle of Rozpoznani Nierozpoznani (Recognised Unrecognised), Teatr A Part from Katowice will take on the challenge interpreting Shakespeare’s play in their performance of Lear, f*** you, while Teatr Ognia i Papieru (Fire and Paper Theatre) from Łódź will take us to the time of darkness and fire in the show called The Reliquary.
We will start the Festival with a presentation of Social Sculpture with Antoni Grabowski and his Fool’s Cage as well as Krzysztof Franaszek with a form entitled 24. The visual triptych will be complemented by 3rd year Sculpture Studio students from the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw. They will present their works inspired by the theme: The Fall.
2019 is the 30th anniversary of the political system transformation, to which we are going to devote a photography exhibition entitled …there was, there is… It will be a presentation of pictures taken during performances of several Polish street and open-air theatres active since June 4, 1989.
I hope the events that we have prepared will become an unforgettable artistic experience for all of you.
Yours sincerely,
Dariusz Jarosiński
